Some of you may have noticed labels on packages with Nutritional information. The Grocery Manufacturers Association Facts Up Front help consumers make informed decisions on their food purchases by displaying important nutrient information. The Facts Up Front label shows calories per serving and information on three nutrients to limit in your diet: saturated fat, sodium and sugar. Labels may also have information on one or two nutrients that we need to get more of as part of a healthy diet.
We all want to make the best nutritional choices for ourselves and family. Many of us need advice and assistance on how to make the best informed choices. A lot of us don't really bother checking the nutritional label on the back of the food packages we buy because we assume that because it's not fast food it must be some what "healthy" or just better for us. But that's not true. I for the longest time never bothered to read the nutritional label on the foods I would purchase. Once I was taught to read the labels on my food, I began to realize the nutritional choices I was making for myself and family and I was quickly able to adjust my food choices for better ones.
FactsUpFront.org is a user-friendly website launched in April 2013 to help consumers like you and I make informed choices when grocery shopping for our families. FactsUpFront.org is a resource for consumers to learn more about the label, how to read it, and how to build a healthful diet. The website provides great educational tools and resources like a Nutrition Calculator, Nutrition Quiz, Shopping and meal planning tips, and recipe ideas for easy, delicious dishes made with products bearing the Facts Up Front label. There are also sections for vegetarians, gluten-free diets.
