Did you know that many people gain weight during the holidays? With all the holiday parties and sweet treats during the season, it's not surprising that many of us will leave with the season with a few extra pounds.
As a Soy Connection Ambassador, I encourage you to make healthy choices this holiday season while celebrating with friends and family.
8 Tips for eating healthy during the holidays
- Don't go to a party hungry. You're less likely to go overboard with the holiday treats if you don't arrive hungry.
- Fuel up on fruits and veggies. Aim for the fruit and veggie platters when at a holiday party and stay away from the cookies, crackers and chips. Fiber in fruits and vegetables will fill you up faster than traditional snack foods.
- Stay active. I know it's cold out and you're probably very busy during the season but it's important to remain active during the busy holiday season.
- Be a leader and make healthy choices for others and yourself. Bring a healthy appetizer to an event you're attending.
- Drink your fruits and veggies. Smoothies are a great way to eat healthy on the go or when you're busy. Add some avocados to your favorite smoothie to add some healthy fats or a scoop of protein or peanut butter to keep you full.
- Just say no. It's okay to turn down your aunts delicious, sugary, high-calorie desserts. I know it's hard but you can do it!
- Be social. Engage in conversations at an event instead of hanging out by the dessert table.
- Read labels. Check the nutritional labels on your food. Being aware of how many calories your consuming will help you make better choices.
