16 Packing and Moving Tips

1. Budget for your move. Rental truck, gas, storage, packing supplies, lodging, meals or time-off from work can all add up very quickly. 
2. Plan time to pack. The more time you have to pack the better organized and prepared you can be.
3. Moving Sale. Less stuff to pack and funds can go towards moving expenses.
4. Begin de-cluttering in advance. Decide what to sale, donate or trash.
5. Have kids? Arrange for a sitter.
6. Use paper or Styrofoam plates in between your plates.
7. Re-purpose old towels, blankets and clothing as padding to protect fragile items instead of purchasing bubble wrap.
8. Create a packing schedule. Pack up rooms and items you use less often first.
9. Start your change of address process a head of time so none of your mail is sent to your old address.
10. Pack a 'First Day Essentials' box. This will include: Toilet paper, napkins, cleaning supplies, disposable eating utensils, mini tool box, trash bags and personal care items. 
11. Use Ziplock bags to keep small items together. All those 'Junk Drawers' you have around the house, it'll be easy to keep the junk contained in bags.
12. Write room and contents on the side of boxes. This way you're not digging through multiple boxes when looking for something. 
13. Set-up your beds first. That way you have somewhere to rest when your tired or reading to go to sleep.
14. Grab several hangers at a time and place a large trash bag around them by poking a hole at the bottom of the bag for the hooks to hang and tying them up in the ends. That way the clothes make it to your closet easy, peasy.
15. Don't pack all your dishes in one box. It gets too heavy
16. Don't empty out dresser drawers just take the drawers out with the clothes still in them
